Special Education Staffing

By Stephanie Householder posted 04-17-2016 18:31

Hello, my name is Stephanie Householder. I am currently in an Education Finance Class and as an assignment we were asked to make a post on ASBO about a topic of interest for us personally. Profession wise I am a special education teacher in Maryland.

My question for you is what formula's or methods does your county use to determine the special education staffing for your county? Do they use the identified special education student number as the precursor to new jobs or is it by the total school population?

Thank you!

Thank you so much Mr. Avery for your response and this great information. Do you happen to know how they came up with the maximum case size of 26? How effective was the formula?
Thanks again!

Stephanie,
Here is a guide put together by the Wisconsin state Department of Public Instruction that I have used with our pupil services director in the past. It is older and DPI is updating it, but it at least lays a foundation.
