Good afternoon,
ASBO International, with the help of The Superintendents Association (AASA) and other education groups, have had great success with convincing Congress to prioritize ESEA reauthorization. The Senate and House ESEA bills were passed earlier this month, within two weeks of our joint coalition and press conference asking Congress to "put kids first" and reform our nation's landmark child education law.
So once again, we are working with this group of education organizations to convince Congress to quickly move the House and Senate ESEA bills through conference and reauthorize ESEA as soon as possible. We sent a joint letter to influential lawmakers on ESEA, including Speaker Boehner, Representative Pelosi, Senator McConnell, and Senator Reid, Chairman Kline, Representative Scott, Chairman Alexander, and Senator Murray. (See the letter attached.)
EdWeek picked up the story as well, so please read their report for more information on the initiative. Here is the list of all organizations participating in this coalition:
American Federation of Teachers
National Education Association
The School Superintendents Association
National Association of Secondary School Principals
Council of Chief State School Officers
Association of School Business Officials International
National Association of Elementary School Principals
National School Boards Association
National PTA
National Association of State Boards of Education
Thank you.

Subject: ASBO International & Other Edu. Groups Urge Congress to Reauthorize ESEA/NCLB
Good morning,
We have great news! One day after ASBO International and 9 other national education advocacy groups urged Congress to put students first and focus on Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) reauthorization, Majority Leader and Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) officially scheduled the Senate ESEA reauthorization bill, the Every Child Achieves Act (ECAA), for floor debate during the week of July 6 (after Congress returns from its July 4 recess).
For more coverage on the initiative, read this EdWeek blog.
Thank you.

Good morning,
As ESEA/NCLB reauthorization has been delayed due to other federal trade and defense issues, ASBO International and nine other education advocacy organizations are urging Congress to prioritize ESEA/NCLB reauthorization and bring the Senate's Every Child Achieves Act to the floor for a vote as soon as possible. We are asking Congress to "put kids first" and reauthorize a better child education law that provides all students the quality education that they deserve.
Members of the national education advocacy coalition held a joint "Kids First" press conference at 11 a.m. today about the importance of ESEA reauthorization.
