The Department of Education (ED) issued a Dear Stakeholder letter announcing that ED's Federal Commission on School Safety is holding its first listening session on Wednesday, June 6, to provide the public an opportunity to share views on how schools, districts, LEAs/SEAs, and other educational institutions can improve school safety. The first session is at ED's HQ office in Washington, D.C. (Lyndon Baines Johnson Building) but there will be three other listening sessions held in other regions of the U.S. (dates/locations are TBD).
The open public forum will be divided into two sessions – a morning session (9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. EST) and an afternoon session (1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. EST). Those who would like to sign up for a five minute time slot to speak at the session, as well as those who would like to observe,
should register here. Individuals who would like to present comments and/or observe the listening session
must register. The Commission will accept walk-in registrations for speaking and/or observing on a first-come, first-served basis for each session, until capacity is reached.
ED
will live-stream the session here, and a transcript will be posted shortly after the event on ED's website. Anyone may submit written comments to ED by email at
Safety@ed.gov.
