  • 1.  Advocacy Opp.: Urge Congress for E-Rate COVID-19 Funding

    Posted 05-04-2020 11:16
ASBO International and AASA, The School Superintendents Association are working together to advocate for more broadband/connectivity support to schools to support remote and online learning needs in light of COVID-19 through the federal E-Rate program.

If you would like to join us in this advocacy opportunity, please review this letter and sign your name.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shone a bright light on digital equity issues for students, known as the "homework gap." COVID-19 has quickly forced schools serving more than 55 million students into a remote learning reality, resulting in a struggle to ensure all students can access online learning. It is anticipated that 12 million of those students across the nation lack internet access adequate to support online learning. In response, ASBO International and AASA are calling on Congress to ensure the next COVID-19 stimulus package includes $4 billion in direct funds to the FCC Schools and Libraries Program (E-Rate) to help connect millions of students to the internet so they can continue their education. This extra funding can also help schools with planning for the possibility of interruptions to classroom teaching and learning during the 2020-2021 school year.

If you have other ideas/feedback about how ASBO International can help support you in advocating for schools in light of COVID-19, please contact us.
