This week, federal lawmakers are trying to finalize funding for the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (L-HHS-ED) appropriations bill for fiscal year (FY) 2020. This funding bill will determine the amount of federal education funding available for school districts during the 2020-2021 school year for IDEA, Title I, and other critical school programs.

ASBO International, the Committee for Education Funding (CEF), and other education organizations are sharing a widespread call to action to urge Congress to increase education funding. If you would like to join us in this advocacy opportunity, please contact your officials on December 5 and 6, and feel free to use the advocacy talking points and resources below.

    December 5 & 6 Call-In Day of Action
Instructions for Contacting Congress to Support Education Funding

    1. Look up your elected officials' contact information:
      https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members

    2. Call your officials and use this sample phone script:

"Hi, my name is [First name AND Last name] and I am a constituent from [City AND State].

I am calling to urge [Representative OR Senator Last Name] to increase federal education investments in the funding bill for the Department of Education that Congress is working on now. Investments in education are vital for students, families, communities, and the U.S. economy.

[Provide a specific example of how education funding would help you, your school, or your district if you want to]. I urge [Representative OR Senator Last Name] to work hard to increase education funding. Thank you."

    1. Tweet your elected officials and spread the word:

I called my Member of Congress [include your official's @ twitter handle] to support more education funding for FY2020. Federal #edfunding is now $7 billion below the 2011 level in inflation-adjusted terms.

Join me in urging your Members of Congress to increase federal education investments in the government funding bills now being drafted. The public strongly supports more #edfunding [include @ twitter handle(s) for your Member(s) of Congress].
