Where the Road to Yorktown Began

Although Yorktown was the decisive battle that secured American independence, the path to victory began in the South. Savannah played a key role in the Southern Campaign, where leaders faced shifting conditions, limited resources, competing priorities, and the challenge of building alignment across diverse groups.

Through historical context, guided discussion, and immersive learning, participants will examine the decisions, relationships, setbacks, and turning points that shaped the Southern Campaign and ultimately contributed to victory at Yorktown. Throughout the experience, they will connect those lessons to the leadership challenges facing today’s school business officials.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of Eagle Institute, participants will be able to:

  1. Analyze leadership decisions made during the Southern Campaign and the Battle of Yorktown to identify strategies for building alignment, collaboration, and shared purpose within their own organizations.
  2. Evaluate how historical leaders adapted to changing circumstances, learned from setbacks, managed limited resources, and navigated complex stakeholder relationships, then apply those principles to contemporary school business challenges.
  3. Develop practical leadership strategies that strengthen strategic planning, decision-making, and organizational resilience by translating lessons from the Revolutionary War into actionable approaches for today's educational environment.
