This series of one-page resources, which can be used individually or collectively as a comprehensive guide, focuses on understanding three primary areas:
- The importance of data collection and sharing.
- How to best protect student privacy when using personally identifiable information from FERPA-protected student education records.
- How to manage shared data using integrated data systems.
While highlighting FERPA’s federal privacy protections, the toolkit discusses why data sharing is important, under which circumstances it’s legal, how to obtain consent to share it, and acceptable exceptions for obtaining consent.
