Funding for Specials Classes (Music, Art, PE)

Good morning!

My name is Katie and I am a graduate student at Frostburg State University in MD, pursuing my masters degree in Educational Leadership.  I am a graduate assistant for the Health and PE department here at FSU, in which I received my undergrad in.  I am enrolled in a school finance class and as part of that class we are to discuss a topic with other ASBO members.

As a Health and PE graduate, I was curious as to where other specials classes (Music, Art and PE) get their funding from and/or how that process works for requesting and spending.

I look forward to hearing from you all!

Leslie,

Thank you for the response!  I am actually from Frederick County, so that is interesting to see those numbers.

Katie:  At Frederick County Public Schools, we allocate each year 3.0 specials teachers (art/music/PE) at the elementary level per 15 teachers.  We also allocate a .4 FTE per elementary school for instrumental music.  Hope this helps.  Leslie Pellegrino, CFO, Frederick County (MD) Public Schools
