Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Education announced the details of its new district-level Race to the Top competition. The district competition is the latest iteration of Race to the Top, begun under the economic-stimulus program in 2009.

The department anticipates giving out between 15 and 20 four-year grants of up to $25 million each. Districts will be able to apply for the funds individually or as part of consortia with other districts, even districts in other states.

An executive summary of the department's proposed criteria for the competition is available here. Full details are available on the department's district-level Race to the Top website.
