On May 23, Sen. John Thune (R-SD), a member of the Senate Budget Committee, joined with Senate Budget Committee Ranking Member, Jeff Sessions (R-AL), to introduce the Sequestration Transparency Act of 2012, “a bill requiring the Obama administration to provide Congress with its plan for implementing the required budget sequestration cuts for Fiscal Year 2013.” (See Thune, Sessions Demand Transparent Plan from Obama Administration for Implementing Sequestration Cuts). The bill, S.B. 3228, requires the White House to issue a report on how both defense and non-defense spending will be affected by sequestration. Currently, all 31 cosponsors are Republicans.

Representatives Hensarling (R-TX) and House Budget Committee Chairman Ryan (R-WI) are expected to introduce the House companion bill.
