On Friday afternoon, the United States Department of Education issued
a memo to Chief State School Officers to provide clarification regarding the impact of the impending sequester on the four education programs that receive advance funding (Title I, Title II, IDEA and Career/Technical Education).
The Department noted that if the sequester is triggered, the cuts for advance-funded programs would NOT occur in the 2012-13 school year, but would impact schools during the 2013-14 school year.
The depth of the cuts for advance-funded programs would be equal to the percentage cut for all other non-exempt discretionary programs.
The department noted one exception: Impact Aid. Impact Aid is a current-year funded program and as such, would experience cuts in the 2012-13 school year if the sequester takes place.
