In case you missed it last week, check out this 8 minute video story from John Merrow of the PBS Newshour, Evaluating Teachers: Are Teacher Unions the Solution?

The focus is the school system in Toledo, Ohio which has had a peer assistance and review program in place since 1981.  The program was developed by the union and approved by the local school board.  Seems like a good program for new teachers, but for tenured teachers, maybe not so much.

You can listen in to the companion podcast, The Problem with the Toledo Plan, as well.

Unions are in place to protect the mediocre and less than average worker ...good workers protect themselves
