When schools close for the summer, nearly 30 million children that rely daily on USDA's school breakfast and lunch programs lose access to these nutritious meals. Thanks to bipartisan action by Congress, States have two powerful new tools to fight summer hunger. Starting in summer 2023, certain rural communities can provide summer meals to children through a "grab and go" or home delivery model; and launching in summer 2024, States can participate in the permanent nationwide Summer EBT program, which will provide grocery benefits for households with eligible children during the summer.
