8:15 am – 11:15 am – Addressing Equity Workshop: Culturally Responsive Leadership for School Systems – (Includes a 15-minute break)

Presenters: Graig Meyer and Aaron Johnson, Equity Coaches, The Equity Collaborative

Gain an understanding of two of the root causes of inequities in schools (cultural schema synchronicity and implicit bias) as a basis for exploring how well-intentioned people (teachers, administrators, board members) create systems that perpetuate racial inequities. • Explore the concepts of cultural schema and implicit bias and their application to schooling and discover ways that your district could interrupt and replace implicit biases that create inequities.
      • Identify ways to apply new stories, rules, and resources that can be used to create a more equitable situation as school district leaders straddling the margins and mainstream of their community.
