Description: This presentation explores the dynamic leadership of John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States. It delves into his visionary goals, such as the ambitious moon landing project, his exceptional communication skills, and his adept crisis management during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The presentation also highlights Kennedy’s youthful charisma, progressive policies, and his ability to inspire a nation during times of change. Through examining these facets, we will uncover the enduring impact of JFK’s leadership on modern governance and public service.

Description: In this enlightening presentation you will discover the key components of EQ and how they can transform your personal and professional relationships. 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm From Bridge to Engine Room: Leadership Lessons from the Coast Guard

Presenter(s): Jody Maisano, Coast Guard Officer (ret.) and President of Always Ready Consulting

Description: Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the Coast Guard’s unique approach to leadership, where we delve into the structured hierarchy that ensures operational excellence and safety at sea. Using the levels of a ship as a metaphor, we will illustrate how leadership is exercised from the bridge, where strategic decisions are made, down to the engine room, where tactical execution occurs. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of how leadership at different levels—strategic, operational, and tactical—integrates to create a cohesive and effective command structure. You will learn how these principles can be applied to enhance the impact you have on your team and organization.

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  • Utilize the metaphor of a ship’s levels to understand and implement effective leadership practices at various levels in your organization.
  • Apply the Coast Guard’s hierarchical leadership approach to enhance strategic, operational, and tactical decision-making within your team.
  • Learn effective ways to build cohesion, trust, and respect within your team and across the organization.

3:00 pm – 4:00 pm Vision, Communication, Cohesion: Reflections and Facilitated Discussion Inspired by the Leadership of John F. Kennedy

Presenter(s): Dr. Jeff McCausland, Ph.D., Founder and CEO, Diamond6 Leadership & Strategy

Description: During this final discussion session, the facilitator briefly reviews the day’s presentations –JFK’s dynamic leadership from his time in the Navy to the White House, key tenets of emotional intelligence, and the unique structural hierarchy of the Coast Guard. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on these leadership topics, how Kennedy exemplified them in various ways, and discuss how they can apply these concepts to their own leadership and the teams they lead.

At the end of this session, learners should be able to:

  • Identify the most valuable individual and organizational leadership lessons learned throughout the day.
  • Develop ways you will apply these lessons within yourself, your team, and your organization.
  • Learn from other participants to further enhance your leadership and create valuable professional connections.
